Introducing Mentor Maribeth
Hello, my name is Maribeth Toner. I am the Vice Executive Director of Restoring Oaks which helps fight the end of human trafficking, and a part time substitute teacher for Charlotte County Schools. I have an associate degree in criminal justice and am seeking to further my education in the not-so-distant future.
Five years ago, I had an unfortunate problem with drug addiction and ended up losing my son to the state permanently. As time went on, I was able to maintain my sobriety, and demonstrate positive parenting skills, alongside my husband with our 3-year-old daughter. My story has a much happier ending, because of these accomplishments. For example, for the first time, my son’s adoptive parents invited us over to celebrate his 11th birthday. These may seem like small steps, but they are huge leaps when it comes to the process of gaining trust in a relationship. His family is also very proud of my accomplishments and success as I further my career path and God’s purpose for me.
I look forward to being a mentor to support and encourage other families who are facing similar challenges. I hope to share my story and inspire others “if I could do it then they can also”.
