On April 29th, Flotilla 91 demonstrated Patriotism as they represented the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary at the arrival of the Honor Flight at Reqional Southwest Airport. Our Flotilla had the distinguished placement of being first to greet 83 World War ll and Korean Veterans as they exited the aircraft after a day in Washington DC.

In the spirit of honor and respect, our Shipmates stood at attention and greeted each Veteran with a hand salute as each Veteran exited the plane. They returned our salute from a wheelchair as they were escorted by a Guardian. The background included the sounds of bagpipes and the Honor Guard of the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

Flotilla 91 is the recipients of City Council Proclamations supporting National Safe Boating Week from Lee County, Town of Estero, and Town of Ft. Myers Beach. Dan Eaton and myself went to the Fort Myers Beach Town Council meeting and bestowed the Proclamation by Mayor Allers.  Dan and I have been invited as well to the Town of Estero later in the month for NSBW proclamations. The Lee County Board of County Commissioners has already sent the Flotilla their Proclamation. These Proclamations are a symbol of Flotilla 91 and the dedication and commitment in our many roles.

Flotilla 91 has gained two new members this past month and two applications have been submitted for review and approval. The word is out in the community that Flotilla 91 is active in its goals in the Auxiliary.

The Flotilla has doubled in its membership these past two years and these new members are the future with new visions. My term ends at the end of the year and I encourage all members to consider leadership positions of Flotilla Vice Commander and Flotilla Commander for 2024. Each of our new members is a leader with past experiences, background, education, and can improve the Flotilla with their management. Flotilla 91 anticipates a new home next year and I hope as a Past Flotilla Commander I can mentor and guide a new commander in this vision for the future.
